The Archbishop today visited Bushenyi for AMDEF campaign, District hosted at Kitabi Parish an initiative that supports the Diocese's pastoral mission and sustainable development.
The event brought together the faithful from the district's five parishes Kitabi, St. Kagwa, Bitooma, Kyamuhunga, and Buhimba along with people from other religious denominations and faith communities, demonstrating a shared commitment to the growth and development of the Diocese.
During the fundraising campaign, the district raised over UGX 300 million in support of AMDEF. The generous contribution reflects the community's dedication to strengthening the Diocese's capacity to carry out evangelization, pastoral ministry, education, healthcare, and other development initiatives in service of the people of God.
The Archbishop expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the campaign, commending the unity, generosity, and spirit of collaboration shown by all participants. He encouraged the faithful and all well-wishers to continue supporting AMDEF as a means of building a self-sustaining Diocese that effectively responds to the spiritual and social needs of the community.
The Religious Brothers and Sisters of the Diocese gathered today for a one-day workshop on Synodality in Religious Life, aimed at deepening their understanding of the Church's call to journey together in faith, mission, and service.
The workshop provided an opportunity for participants to reflect on the meaning and practice of synodality within consecrated life, emphasizing the importance of communion, participation, discernment, and shared responsibility in the life and mission of the Church.
Through presentations, discussions, and moments of prayer, participants explored practical ways of fostering collaborative leadership, attentive listening, mutual respect, and active participation within their religious communities and apostolic ministries. The sessions also encouraged religious men and women to strengthen their commitment to walking together with the People of God while responding faithfully to the pastoral needs of today's world.
The workshop reaffirmed that synodality is not simply a method of working but a way of being Church one that invites every member to listen to the Holy Spirit and to one another in building communities marked by unity, fraternity, and missionary zeal.
The Diocese expresses its gratitude to all the facilitators, organizers, and participants whose commitment contributed to the success of the workshop. Today, 16th May 2026, His Grace Lambert Bainomugisha, the Archbishop of Archdiocese of Mbarara, met with Parish District Mobilization Teams that were involved in mobilizing funds for AMDEF in the 13 districts of the Archdiocese. The meeting focused on continuing preparations and planning for the same initiative for the year 2026.
From 13th to 16th May 2026, members of the Laity Council in the Archdiocese of Mbarara met at Maryhill High School for the Annual General Meeting, during which they elected new members of the Executive Committee of the Laity Council.
Today, His Grace Lambert Bainomugisha, the Archbishop of Mbarara celebrated Holy Mass at Nyamitanga Cathedral in prayerful remembrance of Mr. John Bosco Kazoora, who passed away on Monday, 4th May 2026, and who will be laid to rest tomorrow, Friday, at his ancestral home in Ibanda. Mr. Kazoora will be remembered as a gifted musician and renowned composer of Catholic hymns whose music enriched the liturgy and inspired many faithful. The Archdiocese joins his family, friends, and the Christian community in praying for the peaceful repose of his soul, and may the Lord grant him Eternal Rest.
Archbishop Lambert Bainomugisha today paid his annual pastoral visit to Bishop Stuart University, where he administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to candidates and encouraged the university community to remain steadfast in faith, excellence, and service. We thank God for this joyful and grace-filled occasion.
ARCHBISHOP LAMBERT BAINOMUGISHA WITH THE NEWLY ORDAINED PRIESTS AND DEACONS
Archbishop Lambert Bainomugisha ordained seventeen priests and eight deacons in a colourful ceremony at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral Nyamitanga. Among the ordained priests there was a missionary priest from the congregation of the Missionaries of Africa. After their ordination, they were all sent to go and evangelize the people of God and continue the mission of Christ.
Youth from all parishes across the Archdiocese of Mbarara gathered in a spirit of unity and devotion to celebrate the Jubilee Year of Hope. Under the theme “We Are Pilgrims of Hope,” the youth made a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral, Nyamitanga, as a testament to their shared faith and journey.
The spiritual talk given by the Pastoral Coordinator, Rev. Fr. Deusdedit Twesigyeomwe, who addressed the young people on the significance of the Jubilee Year of Hope in their lives. He emphasized the importance of walking together in faith, unity, and love as the youth of the Archdiocese, echoing the spirit of the Jubilee year.
After registration, the pilgrims participated in a spiritual talk, received the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and spent time in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. These moments of reflection and grace culminated in the symbolic passing through the Holy Door, an act of marking spiritual renewal during the Jubilee year.
The celebration reached its peak with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, presided over by the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Mbarara, Rev. Fr. Serverinus Ndugwa. In his homily, he urged the youth to remain steadfast in hope and to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, who never disappoints. He also encouraged them to draw inspiration from Blessed Carlo Acutis, who has been canonized by Pope Leo XIV on September 7, 2025. Blessed Carlo, known for his devotion and innovative evangelization through the internet and social media, was presented as a model for young people navigating the modern digital world with faith.
This pilgrimage served not only as a spiritual encounter but also as a unifying moment for the youth of the Archdiocese, reinforcing their identity as hopeful pilgrims journeying together in Christ.
